Santorini is compact but the bus routes between Fira, Oia, Perissa and Kamari get extremely crowded in summer. A rental car or quad allows you to reach the quieter beaches of Vlychada and Perivolos, visit the ancient site of Akrotiri, and avoid the gridlock that clogs the main road at sunset time.
